Desirable Humidifier Features
Built in humidity meter. You choose the target humidity level and the machine takes care of the rest. As too much humidity causes problems with mold and dust mites, this is a vital feature.
Ease of use. Large water tanks, easy cleaning and a lack of other regular maintenance duties will save you a lot of time in the long run.
Lack of noise. Most modern humidifiers by the top brands are very quiet these days. If you are the sort of person who is bothered by background noise, this should still be a top priority though. In general, warm mist humidifiers make less noise than cold. See the comparison page for more details.
A low water indicator, so that you can easily see when you need to top it up.
Automatic shut off when empty. Why waste electricity? (Also an important safety feature on some models).
Variable speed settings (where applicable). Some days you will need your humidifier to work harder than on other days. The speed will also influence the level of noise.
Extra features. Some models also offer air purification, sterilization, dehumidification etc. Although a specialist machine for each function will generally give better results, an all in one solution will certainly appeal to some people.
